Dr Stephen Cunningham

Module Leader, MA in Social Policy

Steve is a Senior Lecturer in Social Policy and the Course Leader for our on-campus BA (Hons) Social Policy and Sociology programme.

In his time with us thus far, Steve has held several course leadership positions and contributed to the development of our School of Social Work, Care and Community’s portfolio of social science and qualifying social work courses.

His areas of research are welfare history; poverty and social security; the sociology of welfare; asylum and immigration policy; child labour; and children’s activism.

  • Co-authoring Schools Out: the Hidden History of Britain’s School Student Strikes (Bookmarks, 2016)

  • Co-authoring the social work textbooks Sociology and Social Work, 2nd edition (Sage, 2014) and Social Policy and Social Work: An Introduction, 2nd edition (Sage, 2017)
