Why choose a CILT accredited course?
Discover the benefits of studying a CILT accredited master's course.
Are you looking to progress your professional career within supply chain management? Do you want to learn the most up-to-date logistics and transport techniques? Would you like to gain a globally-recognised qualification which allows you to work all over the world?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, these are just three of the many reasons to opt for a CILT-accredited master’s.
Who is the CILT?
Referred to by its acronym CILT, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport is the leading professional body for people who work in supply chain, logistics and transport. First established in the UK as the Institute of Transport in 1919, the organisation was granted a Royal Charter by King George V in 1926.
It now acts as the Chartered body for professionals involved in the movement of goods and people, and their associated supply chains, delivering career development, relevant information, networking and professional recognition to over 30,000 members in countries across the world.
What is CILT accreditation?
Accreditation is the process by which the CILT works in partnership with universities and colleges to professionalise the supply chain, by ensuring that accredited courses meet its globally-recognised benchmarks for logistics and transport training to meet the standards for membership of the Institute.
As such, accredited courses offer exemption from the education requirements for Membership (MILT) or Chartered Membership (CMILT) – essentially a ‘fast track’ route to Assessed Membership of the CILT(UK).
Why is CILT accreditation important?
By choosing our CILT-accredited MSc in Supply Chain Management, you can be confident that the content of your course will be relevant, up-to-date and has been developed to the highest standards needed to develop logistics and transport professionals across the world.
You’ll be gaining a qualification that is internationally transferable, offering valuable professional recognition wherever and for whomever you choose to work, for businesses, government or government agencies.

What is the CILT(UK) Competency Framework?
The CILT(UK) Competency Framework is central to the accreditation process. This sets out in detail the standards for the skills, knowledge and experience required for roles and activities across the profession. Encompassing personal effectiveness, technical and core workplace capabilities, they cover:
-
Operations and supply chain management
-
Sustainability and the global community
-
Planning in transport; people mobility
-
Logistics and freight movement
-
Bespoke technical competencies
-
Leadership, management and engagement
-
Data and technology
-
Efficiency, quality and risk
-
Professional, customer centric and continuous improvement ethos
Is CILT(UK) different to CILT?
Don’t be confused if you see references to CILT(UK) as well as CILT as this is simply a reflection of the structure and governance of the Institute. CILT(UK) is the UK territorial body of CILT, whereas CILT International is the global parent organisation for CILT. Since accreditation is managed within the UK, you will see references to CILT(UK) whenever membership or accreditation is mentioned.
Can I join CILT(UK) as a student?
Yes! Becoming a student member not only gives you access to a range of events, benefits and services, but is also a great way of demonstrating your professional commitment and building the foundations of your career within the profession. The Institute’s Knowledge Centre – Europe's largest collection of logistics and transport resources – provides access to journals, reports and research online to assist your studies.
As well as discounts on over 180 publications for sale online, you’ll receive a monthly online magazine and weekly news bulletin. And when you’re ready to take that next step in your career, there’s even a dedicated career consultant who can review your CV.
Why choose UCLan’s online MSc in Supply Chain Management?

For those working in logistics or transport, this takes you one step closer to becoming a Chartered Fellow (FCILT) – the highest membership grade available.
