[MUSIC PLAYING] - I started my journey as a computer science engineer. So I did my undergrad education in computer science and engineering. I have my master's in IT Business Management and my PhD in Supply Chain Management. So I kind of landed as a senior lecturer in logistics and supply chain.
And I teach operations management and strategy, project management, management consultancy, logistics in supply chain, and research skills to the various disciplines in UCLan in the School of Management. So in context to supply chain, we welcome students from diverse backgrounds, as your course leader has diverse qualifications in hers.
This course starts in May 2023, so this course runs online, as well as a distance learning program, as well as a face to face. We have two modes of delivery in UCLan. So this course is accredited by a professional body, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. So we offer a unique blend of modules. We review the supply chain from different strands, from a financial strand, from a HR strand, from a business strand, to see how sustainable is our supply chain. And we do look at the enrichment of the digitalization techniques in supply chain, in logistics and supply chain.
So the final module of-- the students have five modules. And the fifth module will be the research project, where they can just take a little supply chain issue that could be a local supply chain issue or a global supply chain issue, apply the concepts of supply chain, and you could just test theory and what they view in reality. So this is a phenomenal course, a very contemporary course. And I look forward to seeing you all.
- So I work within the medical field. I think a degree in general education is important to anybody. If you're looking for growth and development, I am a firm believer in personal development. In order to serve teams or my organization at a strategic level, it was important that I equipped myself with the right education so that I could cascade that information to best serve that organization.
Currently, the degree was important to me, specifically. We're going through a growth phase within the business through a franchise. That means opening multiple sites across the UK. We're talking about 300 new clinics across the UK. Now, the most important thing for me was I've got a massive staff base that report to me and a lot of team leaders.
So in order for that to happen, I have to upskill myself within HR employment law strategically to implement strategies to help the business grow. And the only way I was going to do that was to find a course specific to what I was looking for. And obviously, UCLan was, in terms of the course content, was the number one choice by far.
Yeah, so I think the key factor here is time management. So from a professional and personal point of view, I manage my entire life like a meeting. So I schedule time for absolutely everything. It is really important while on a master's, because it is demanding, that you have that balance. So if you've got a full time job, and try and find that time for your studies, for your family. Never neglect either factor, whether it be your family, if you're married, your wife, you've got kids, you've got your obligations. It's really, really important to find that balance to ensure that you don't have any burnout.
One thing I think to remember is just be prepared. Never give up. If you have aspirations to complete a master's degree, give it your everything. Your social life, if you have a really big social life, it's really important that at this level that you remember that short term sacrifices have a lifelong gain. So if you can't go out one weekend and you need to study or you've got assignments, it's really important to dedicate that time. It will elevate you later on in life for the rest of your life.
And I'm a firm believer once you have that degree, nobody ever can take that away from you. You can lose your jobs. They come and go. Relationships are the same. They come and go. Once you have that qualification, it's credible. It builds accountability. You'll be a level 7 associate with CIPD, so it's a dual qualification. And it's internationally recognized.
Now, this is really, really important. I've worked in Southeast Asia. I've worked in parts of Africa. I've worked in Europe, predominantly. And I've been offered roles in the Middle East on a line project. So it has credibility. The most important thing is time management.
